Magnetic-field-induced Luttinger insulator state in quasi-one-dimensional conductors

چکیده
We present a heuristic, semiphenomenological model of the anomalous temperature (T ) dependence of resistivity ρxx recently observed experimentally in the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) organic conductors of the (TMTSF)2X family in moderately strong magnetic fields. We suggest that a Q1D conductor behaves like an insulator (dρxx/dT < 0), when its effective dimensionality is one, and like a metal (dρxx/dT > 0), when its effective dimensionality is greater than one. Applying a magnetic field reduces the effective dimensionality of the system and switches the temperature dependence of resistivity between the insulating and metallic laws depending on the magnitude of the magnetic field and its orientation along the “magic” and “nonmagic” angles.

Spin-density wave versus superconducting fluctuations for quasi-one-dimensional electrons in two chains of Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids.
We study possible states at low temperatures by applying the renormalization-group method to two chains of Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids with both repulsive intrachain interactions and interchain hopping. As the energy decreases below the hopping energy, three distinct regions I, III, and II appear successively depending on properties of fluctuations. The crossover from the spin-density wave (SDW)...

Novel electromc properties of Iow-dimensional organic conductors.under high magnetic fields are briefly reviewed and some topical problems are discussed. Magnetic field effects to electron spins and electron orbital motions are discussed in the quasi one-dimensional conductors (RIR2DCNQI)2Cu and (TMTSF)2X and in the quasi two-dimensional conductor (BEDT-TTF)2XHg(SCN)4. Electronic properties in ...
متن کاملCoherence-Incoherence Transition Between Fermi and Luttinger liquids
We consider conditions for existence of fermionic quasiparticles in a strongly anisotropic quasi-one-dimensional metal. The adopted model is a model of chains of spin-1/2 Luttinger liquid coupled by small interchain hopping. We determine sufficient conditions for a formation of the quasi-particle pole in the single-electron Green’s function. It is shown that the Luttinger liquid becomes more st...
متن کاملCalculation of Quasi-one-dimensional Interacting Electron Gas Using the Hartree-Fock Method
In this paper, the Hartree-Fock method has been formulated to investigate some of the ground state properties of quasi-one-dimensional interacting electron gas in the presence of the magnetic field. The bare coulomb interaction between electrons has been assumed. For this system, we have also computed some of its thermodynamic and magnetic properties such as the energy, pressure, incompressibil...
